Chrysomela knabi image, Willow Leaf Beetle

Subject: Willow Leaf Beetle, Chrysomela knabi

Location: Upshur County, West Virginia

Stock Number: 05-7704

Comments: A number of Leaf Beetles look similar, and C. interrupta and C. knabi cause confusion for folks who try to keep track of such things.

A beetle that looks like this and is feeding on Willow, in April through early June in West Virginia, is almost certainly Chrysomela knabi. As so often in the Leaf Beetle family, identifying the beetle's food plant is a first step in identifying the beetle. C. interrupta feeds on Alder.
