Subject: Flower Longhorn, Longhorned Beetles, Typocerus velutinus Location: Eastern Upshur County, West Virginia Stock Number: 06-37871 Comments: Adults of this species may be found throughout the summer, feeding on flowers and seeking out mates. Identification can be tricky since the markings are variable, but Professor Doug Yanega points out that one key trait is that the yellow markings do not continue across the two elytra as a continuous band; instead, there is a break along the suture. Larvae feed on hardwoods, and oak and hickory are the preferred species. |
