Members of this genus typically make their homes in the branches of dying deciduous trees. When they feed on fruit trees, they are considered agricultural pests.

Four members of the genus are found in America north of Mexico: Amphicerus bicaudatus, A. cornuta, A. simplex, and A. teres.
