Anhinga Fishing, Anhinga anhinga

Subject: Anhinga, Anhinga anhinga

Location: Everglades National Park, Florida

Stock Number: MAG-36

Comments: Locals used to call the Anhingas “Water Turkeys” because of the species’ broadly fanned tail.

As this photo shows, Anhingas typically spear their prey with their beak. In a moment the bird will toss the fish into the air and catch it in its mouth to eat it.
