Abatoleon dorsalis, antlion image from North Carolina

Subject: Antlion, Abatoleon dorsalis

Location: North of Duck, North Carolina

Stock Number: 07-37796

Comments: This antlion was attracted to lights only a hundred feet from the ocean.

Beginning students of entomology often mistake antlions for damselflies. One important difference is the larger, clubbed antennae of antlions. Also, note that damselflies are not attracted to lights.
