Subject: Brown-Throated Conure, Aratinga pertinax

Location: Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

Stock Number: 6712

Comments: These large and vocal birds are among the most-noticed species in the Netherlands Antilles. Locals call them Prikichi.

Bonaire, Aruba, and Curaçao each has its own distinct variety of Brown-Throated Conure, though there has been some interbreeding after humans occasionally brought birds from one island to another as pets that then escaped.

The mainland range of this species includes Central America south to Venezuela, with some gaps.
