Arctic Ground Squirrel, Spermophilus parryii

Subject: Arctic Ground Squirrel, Spermophilus parryii

Location: Inuvik Region, Northwest Territories, Canada

Stock Number: 09-36778

Comments: The upper side of this species of ground squirrel is flecked with white, while the tail has some black. Much of the rest is tan to reddish.

Confusion with identification is not to be expected, because this is the only species of ground squirrel within its range. Its range includes much of Alaska, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. It is also found in northern British Columbia.
