Comment: This European species has been introduced into Canada and the United States. It feeds on grasses, and there is some evidence it prefers the introduced species of grasses so often found in lawns and hayfields.

Researchers have implicated the species in the spread of a plant disease called aster yellows, for which there is no cure.

Athysanus argentarius is the only member of its genus found in the North America.
