Comments: Brule River State Forest in northwest Wisconsin protects the entire Bois Brule River, from the headwaters to the mouth where the Brule empties into Lake Superior.

Visitors use the river for fishing and canoeing . Other common activities in the forest include hunting, cross-country skiing, picnicing, and birding.

The lands that make up Brule River State Forest were heavily damaged by clear-cutting and forest fires in late 19th and early 20th centuries. During the Great Depression the Civilian Conservation Corps undertook replanting work.

At least five presidents visited the Brule River as fishermen or tourists (Grant, Cleveland, Coolidge, Hoover, and Eisenhower), and Coolidge made his summer White House there.
