Comments: Even a small pond is often enough to provide a home to a nesting pair of Green-backed herons.

Often you are unaware of their presence until they fly off with a croaking note of complaint.

I photographed this particular bird early one morning in the Everglades National Park. He sat obligingly as I took his portrait from several different angles.
