Subject: Creeping Water Bug, Pelocoris sp.

Location: Upshur County, West Virginia

Comment: This genus of underwater bug is noteable for its well-developed “biceps.” It feeds on other underwater arthropods, and should be handled carefully, as it will readily bite humans.

There are five genera in the family Naucoridae in America north of Mexico. Members of the family measure 5-15 mm in length.
