Subject: Dawn along a mangrove-lined river, not far from the Caribbean Sea coast. Location:Refugio de Vida Silvestre Cuero y Salado, departamento de Atlántida, Honduras Stock Number: 09-24196 Comments:The government of Honduras founded the Cuero y Salado refuge in 1987, primarily to protect endangered Manatees. Visitors to the refuge enjoy seeing Howler and White-faced Monkeys, Tiger and Boat-billed Herons, Bat Falcons, Long-nosed Bats, Boa Constrictors, and many other creatures. In this wetland environment, no roads lead to the refuge, and the only access is by a small narrow-gauge railroad. The literature lists four major trails (senderos) for visitors, but as it turns out these are all water-trails accessible by boat or canoe!
