Eastern Meadowlark photo from New Mexico

Subject: Eastern Meadowlark, Sturnella magna

Location: Mescalero Sands, New Mexico

Stock Number: 06-24600

Comments: Eastern Meadowlark (Sturnella magna) and Western Meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta) are very similar in appearance. The surest way to tell the two species apart is by their song.

This bird was photographed in New Mexico, at the western edge of the Eastern Meadowlark's range. Both species make their homes in New Mexico.
