Eumomota superciliosa, Turquoise-browed Motmot

Subject: Turquoise-browed Motmot, Eumomota superciliosa

Location: Beside Lago de Yojoa, departamento de Ocotepeque, Honduras

Stock Number: 09-24678

Comments: Motmots are strikingly colorful birds with improbable tails, but most species are seldom seen. Fortunately, they can be readily identified in a certain area by their calls.

The Turquoise-browed Motmot, shown here, is among the more outgoing of the Motmots, living in open habitat rather than deep forest.

Motmots are closely related to Kingfishers, and like Kingfishers they nest in burrows they dig into banks.
