Leucorrhinia borealis

Subject: Boreal Whiteface, Leucorrhinia borealis

Location: Near Peel River Ferry, Northwest Territories, Canada

Stock Number: 09-36540

Comments: The range of the Boreal Whiteface is centered on Alaska and western Canada. The range extends nearly as far east as Hudson Bay. In the lower 48 states, the species is found in the cool Rocky Mountain highlands.

The Boreal Whiteface is similar to the Hudsonian Whiteface, but has more extensive red markings on the dorsum of the abdomen. On male Boreal Whitefaces, there is a prominent spot on S8, while on the Hudsonian Whiteface this spot is absent or muted.
