Subject: White-bearded Manakin, Manacus manacus Location: Arima Valley, Trinidad, Trinidad & Tobago Stock Number: 10-28142 Comments: The White-bearded Manakin is one of three species of Manakin found in the nation of Trinidad and Tobago. Like the Golden-headed Manakin, it is found only on the island of Trinidad. The Blue-backed Manakin is found only on Tobago, though Kenefick et al. (2007) report "recent unconfirmed sightings" of this latter species on Trinidad. Male White-bearded Manakins gather at leks, where they perch low and await the coming of females. When a female shows up, the males dance, display, and vocalize with great energy.
