Subject: Yellow-bellied Marmot, Marmota flaviventris

Location: Arapaho National Forest, Colorado

Stock Number: 04-1425

Comments: This beast certainly looked a lot like the groundhogs from back home in West Virginia. The genus is the same, Marmota. The behavior is very much the same, too.

This one, though, is a western version of Marmota, the Yellow-Bellied Marmot. Here he strikes a pose to show off the belly that gave him his name.
