Mt. Evans highlands image, Colorado

Subject: Mt. Evans

Location: Arapaho National Forest, Colorado

Stock Number: NAY-25

Comments: At 14,250 feet (4350 meters), Mt. Evans is well above the tree line.

The Colorado Department of Transportation maintains the world's highest paved road here, a road that reaches nearly to the summit itself. Visitors should be prepared not only for the twisty and narrow road, but also for the likelihood of mild altitude sickness, with symptoms of diziness and headache.

The headache or diziness may well be worth it, as there is much beautiful scenery here, and wildlife too. Two large members of the subfamily Caprinae can be seen here, the Mountain Goat and the Bighorn Sheep.
