Comments: This photograph shows Bird Rock, the centerpiece of the Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve. Some 70,000 seabirds make their home in the reserve, including about 5,500 nesting pairs of Northern Gannets. The reserve is managed jointly by the provincial parks department and the Canadian Wildlife Service.

Newfoundland is the northernmost breeding ground for Northern Gannets.
