Comments: These handsome birds can be found breeding almost anywhere in the United States except mountainous regions.

While other herons are busy hunting all day, this species may spend its daytime relaxing in the top of a small tree. As dusk falls, the Black-crowned Night Heron becomes active, feeding on fish, insects, frogs, rodents, and even the chicks of other birds.
