Subject: Harris' Hawk, Parabuteo unicinctus Location: Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, Texas Stock Number: MWG-14 Comments: This individual made its home in the arid scrub of Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge in southern Texas. There were plenty of rabbits, lizards, and snakes for it to feed upon. One interesting study of this species reported that over half of the studied nests of Harris Hawk were attended by polyandrous trios. Both males helped the female incubate the eggs and feed the young. |
