Subject: Lined June Beetle (June Bug), Polyphylla occidentalis Location: Neshoba County, Mississippi Stock Number: 5-8258 above (and see similar image below) Comment: This genus of lined June Beetles is more common in the western states than in the eastern U.S. They often bear white scales that form lines on the dorsal surfaces. They are also notable for the bizarre plate-like antennae. Larva of this genus feed on the roots of plants, and may occasionally kill their tree or shrub host. |
