Subject: Black-legged Kittiwake, Rissa tridactyla Location: Witless Bay, Newfoundland Stock Number: 08-20932 (above) and 08-20941 (below) Comments: Above: The Black-legged Kittiwakes make their cup-shaped nests of grasses and seaweed. Locals call this species Tickleass, a reference to how close together the birds fly (the feathers at the rear of one bird tickle the next bird). Below, one Black-legged Kittiwake gives another a bite, apparently believing the other bird is violating his space. A Razorbill looks on. |
