Long-Jointed Bark Beetle, Statira sp.

Subject: Long-Jointed Bark Beetle, Statira sp.

Location: Neshoba County, Mississippi

Stock Number: 06-24069

Comment: In the subfamily Lagriinae of the Darkling Beetles, this genus is noted for prominent eyes and striate elytra. One trait that sets the Long-Jointed Bark Beetles apart from other beetles is the very elongated final segment of the antennae.

Members of this subfamily are nocturnal, and feed on foliage as adults. They regularly show up at lights, too.
