Comments: One of many wasp- and bee-mimic species found in the family Syrphidae. The family goes by a number of common names, including Hover Flies and Flower Flies.

The genus Temnostoma has ten species in America North of Mexico. This particular species is noted for the fine yellow hairs at the rear of the abdomen (similar species have black hairs there).
