Comments: The Yukon is considerably larger than California, but has a population of only about 31,000 people. About two-thirds of residents live in the largest city, Whitehorse.

Fourteen First Nations groups have their own governments within the Yukon.

Though wetlands are present, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories have the lowest average annual precipitation rates of all the provinces and territories of Canada. Some have referred to the region as "Polar desert."
